This guide walks you through the complete end-to-end process of getting data from your integrations into finished, reportable KPIs. Follow these steps in order to go from raw data to live reports.

Step 1 — Create & Map Data Points

First, make sure your data points exist and are mapped to the right source fields.

  1. Create data points for each metric you want to track (see Data Points page)
  2. Map each data point to its source field using Manual Mapping or Smart Mapping (see the Mapping section)
  3. Verify that data is flowing in by checking the data point values after the next sync

Step 2 — Validate Data Point Values

Before building KPIs, confirm the raw numbers are correct:

  1. Run a data sync (or wait for the next scheduled pull). Note that pulling data and calculating KPIs are separate background jobs — running a calculation immediately after triggering a pull can process nothing. Give the pull a couple of minutes to finish, or simply run the calculation again.

Calculating only covers what's been pulled. If you calculate a date range that extends past your last data pull, the tail of that range won't populate. And a change to how data is interpreted — a rule change, or a new column from a data warehouse — only reaches historical months after those months are pulled again. Recalculating old months against data that's already stored won't change them.

  2. Compare the data point values in Fran Metrics to the source system (e.g., check the QuickBooks Online P&L against the QuickBooks Online data point values)

  3. If values don't match, check your mapping configuration

  4. Pay special attention to sign conventions (positive vs. negative) and time period alignment

Step 3 — Create KPIs Using Data Points
